Visit the Phaeton Restaurant and experience Georgian spirit along with cordial welcome and incredible hospitality.
Opening the gates into the yard, you are soon caught by something you have never seen before... Become the witness of how shashlyks are grilled on a spit, watch how Georgian bread is baked in a thone, or the own vodka being distilled in a traditional Georgian way... Here is a cellar furnished with "tabla" low tables, in country style. They can even set the wooden barrel for the meal, you see, some like feasting this way...
Maybe you prefer dining in a large hall, where the walls are depicting Nikala's artworks, and some old, black-and-white photos still blow the air of the 19'ies; some interesting folk items are peacefully resting over the huge, brick fire-place and invite curious visitors to have a closer look on them.
In the evenings true Georgian spirit resides here. The "Phaetoni" Ensemble performs folk program, while the "Rustavi" dancers perform elegant, powerful and extravagant dances.
In the hall with a fireplace, True Georgian feasts take place; on the walls you can see the skins of hunted beasts as well as stuffed birds and animals.
Fest and banquet halls are separately located at the restaurant.
Here is one room called "mughami", decorated in oriental style with lots of carpets, low coaches covered with different cushions of different sized and colors. Just try to sit comfortably and smoke a pipe or play a game of backgammon...
The Phaeton waiters dressed in kinto style (Kintos where native Tbilisi residents, usually small merchants and wore black outfit, baggy pants, made of silk) always stand aside and are at your full service that really matters...
So... I think I need to say something about the meal they serve... But what to say? Everything you may taste at Phaeton is undoubtedly delicate, extraordinary and freshly prepared, because the chief is Mr. Tengiz Chigvinidze, many times rewarded for his exquisite cooking skills.
I am going to get away now. It's your turn to visit the Phaeton to get relaxed, to raise spirits and just to have some rest...
