When it comes to restaurants that serve good Italian food in Tbilisi, PREGO, which means "welcome" in Italian will be on most top lists.
A network of pizzerias, each opening doors with cordial welcome, is already covering the city's most packed places for diners.
I happen to visit one of them at #19, Erekle II Street, one of the favorite places for gathering for the city's foreign visitors; really super place with nice feelings, so I can't wait to share my experience...
Above the door there is a sign with wooden engravings PREGO, I open the door freely and easily and take my way downstairs. This is a real Italian restaurant with wooden tables, brown painted walls on which Italian photos and painting hang, pleasant lighting, refined yet relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the restaurant's Italian cuisine. Prego works its charms with its elegance and pairs it off with rich colours, flavours and aromas of Italy to afford an ambrosial dining experience. Impeccable service, huge pizzas (you can watch them being freshly made) made by real pizzaiols, attentive barmen, mixing exquisite cocktails and offering the special one called "Prego", which must me the best cocktail of the night.
Comfortably located easy armchairs and a small table for magazines, where the Italians like to have a restful sit and enjoy some reading after their supper; every time they leave PREGO they say "We've just been in one of the best Italian restaurants".
They make delicious pizzas for all types of tastes. How can you resist appetizing smells of pizzas made of four sorts of Italian cheese - "gorgonzola", "gouda", "mozzarella", "parmesan", Prosciutto crudo (Italian ham) and "porcino" mushrooms?
After working days' fuss and bustle you can come here, in the very heart of the city, and enjoy your stay in a paradise-like ambient. Order amazing pizza "Paradizo", watch it be made, treat yourself to Tiramisu cake, spaghetti "Fettuccini" with delicious sauce, espresso coffee and "Santal" juices. The best wines from Telavi Wine Cellar are also served and only here you can test exquisite entree - Prego wine, specially made for the visitors.
On the second floor there is a restaurant with 11 tables all "dressed" in white. Warm and tender lights, the walls almost covered with pictures of ancient Rome, Venice and gondolas awaken romantic spirits. In the evenings live music plays here; lovely melodies of piano (every evening 8pm-12am) and violin (twice a week, 8pm-12am) help to shrug off the weariness and enjoy festive bliss.
