“THE SCENES OF VILNUS – VAN DYKE BROWN PRINTS”
Photography exhibition by Saulius Paukštys
Georgian National Museum and Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia present the Photography exhibition “THE SCENES OF VILNUS – VAN DYKE BROWN PRINTS“ by Saulius Paukštys at Tbilisi History Museum.
This exhibition can be symbolically titled as a time machine – the images link together the past and the future and create a unique experience, which combines historical memory and present-day testimony of photography.
The pictures of Vilnius architecture, depicting the buildings and compositions from the medieval ages, are printed using a unique Van Dyke technology, which was patented back in XIX century. Hand-made paper is coated with emulsion containing silver nitrate and then exposed to ultraviolet light. This technology is very sensitive to the proportions of chemicals and to the quality of paper. Because of this sophisticated process, every print is unique and the texture of paper makes them similar to graphic art.
